My Counselling Belief

"Individuals have within themselves vast resources for self understanding and for
altering their self concept, basic attitudes and self directed behavior; these resources can
be tapped if a definable climate of facilitative psychological attitudes can be provided".

Carl Rogers 'A Way of Being' 1980.

Carl Rogers was the 'leading light' of the Person Centred Approach to Counselling. This quote says to me that only the individual knows what is hurting or troubling them , they do not need advice or to be told how to fix it. Talking with friends, family or work colleagues may not help, it might even make matters worse. I believe that through talking with a qualified , experienced counsellor in a professional, warm and safe environment could be the answer.
I aim to provide such an environment in which you will feel listened too, heard and understood. Given the right atmosphere and support, you will make sense of your pain, gain confidence to make changes and take control of your life.

How I work as a Supervisor

"It becomes necessary to learn how to clear the mind of all clouds, to free it of all useless ballast and debris by dismissing the burden of too much concern and material things"

Indra Devi 'And Wisdom Comes Quietly' 2000

For me it felt a natural progression within my professional development to continue my counselling self awareness journey and train as a supervisor. It is my belief that good supervision is essential for the safety of both the client and the counsellor.
My experience is that counselling can be an extremely isolating occupation, so a supportive safe environment is essential for a counsellor to be able to explore his/her practice alongside professional and ethical issues. This in turn enhances their individual practice and client work.
